PCs Andy Oliver and Jon Graves spotted Adrian Rose’s car, which had heavily blacked out windows, parked on the Broadland Business Park, near Norwich, and after deciding to investigate found a 12-year-old girl inside. The discovery was to lead to the arrest of Rose who was jailed yesterday after previously being found guilty of grooming a girl so she could meet him to have sex. Rose, 36, an army sergeant reservist attached to the Royal Military Police in Aldershot, had denied seven counts of rape, six charges of abducting the girl and meeting a child through sexual grooming. But following a trial at Norwich Crown Court, it took a jury less than two hours to find Rose, of St Omars Barrack, Thornhill Road, guilty of all 14 counts. Jailing Rose, Judge Stephen Holt said his behaviour was “highly predatory” and had put some careful planning into his actions: “It’s quite clear you had one aim in mind and that was to have sex with an underage girl – a 12 year-old.” He said if it had not been for a piece of “good old fashioned” policing in stopping his car he would not have been caught and would have carried on with his behaviour. He said Rose had met the girl through Blackberry messaging, which he said was particularly useful for paedophiles as once messages had been deleted they could not be retrieved: “In my judgement you were looking for an underage child and came across this complainant, a child of 12 years old.” He said that Rose, who posed as being 18 or 19, quickly gained the girl’s confidence and said that a report showed he was of high risk of causing serious harm to children. Judge Holt praised both officers in the case and said if they had not intervened more children could have been “damaged” by Rose. Judge Holt also placed Rose on the sex offenders register for life and also made him subject to a sexual offences prevention order, under which he is banned from using Blackberry messaging in the future and also keeps a check on his use of social networking sites. Judge Holt said that his actions had a “profound effect” on the victim who was in court with her family to see Rose jailed. Roger Daniells-Smith, for Rose, said that he was a sad character having lost contact with his family and the army had been his life. “He has worked all his working life for the army and reached a position of some authority in his section.” He said the army had supported him during his trial, with a senior officer attending each day of his trial as well as a welfare officer, but now he faced his future on his own as he would effectively be discharged from the army. “It will be tough for him as a sex offender within a custodial regime. It will be a difficult time for him but he takes it on the chin.” He said that Rose had sold his house in Essex at a loss and had no assets to pay any costs. Speaking to the Norwich Evening News PCs Oliver and Graves said they were pleased to have discovered the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, but ultimately were just doing their jobs. PC Oliver said: “It’s something police officers do every day. You see something out of place in your area and you check it out. It’s just not every day you come across an offence like that. “It’s satisfying to take someone like that off the street.” He added: “Knowing what I now know I would be extremely surprised if this is the first offending he’s done of this nature. I think he was too confident, too polished and I think there’s further victims out there.” PC Graves, who was on patrol with PC Oliver, said: “It was one of my better days at work. To be able to identify and have positive action on a crime like that. We had a good day. You do that type of thing every day, but its just not every day you come across that type of scenario.” The court had heard Rose made contact with the girl in Norwich through messaging on their Blackberry phones and he then arranged to come to Norwich to meet up with her before having sex. But the relationship was discovered when police saw a car being driven by Rose parked on February 19 last year, and when they investigated, found Rose was in the car with the girl. PC Oliver said: “We were just doing a final patrol of the beat area prior to finishing work. It’s common for us just to cut through the business parks on a weekend and this vehicle was parked up in this peculiar spot with really heavily tinted out windows and so we decided to see who it was and have a chat because it was so much out of place.” PC Graves said: “I got out the patrol vehicle to speak to the driver about his car while Andy carried out checks over the radio. He (Rose) tried to distract us from the car itself and that raises alarm bells with me so I conducted further inquiries. “It was then after having a look inside the car I saw the girl in the back of the car.” The girl, who had the zip on her trousers slightly down, was then asked by the officers if she was okay and if her parents knew where she was and who she was with. It was while the officers were taking her back home that the girl, who it was now established was 12 not 13, told them she had met Rose through BBM messaging. They then carefully tried to ascertain whether or not she understood what was meant by grooming before putting in place a serious sexual offences protocol. A message was then put out for Rose’s vehicle to be stopped which it was by officers in Essex who arrested him. Speaking after the sentencing, investigating officer Det Con Steve Graves, said that the victim and her family were now wanting to move on with their lives and put the ordeal behind them and said the victim had coped very well. “I’m hoping she will be able to move on from this. She has shown an immense amount of courage but hopefully she can get some solace in knowing that she may have prevented other victims.” An army spokesman, also speaking after the sentencing, said: “Anyone that falls short of the high expectations of the army can expect to be disciplined up to and including dismissal.”

Former Microsoft execs launch India-based sex toys website

When high level Microsoft employees decide to leave the company, they often form new tech-based companies. Gabe Newell, a former Microsoft Windows producer, went on to co-found Valve. More recently Stephen Elop left Microsoft to become CEO of Nokia.

Now there’s word that a number of former Microsoft executives in Asia have banded together to launch a new retail website, Thatspersonal.com. Before you head over to the URL, however, be aware; the website is designed to sell …well, sex toys for the Indian market.

The Times of India reports1 that the site was launched by Samir Saraiya, who previously was the leader for business development for Microsoft Singapore. He is now the CEO of Digital E-Life, which launched Thatspersonal.com. Two other former executives from Microsoft India have put up angel investment money for Digital E-Life.

So why leave a nice job with a well respected company to run a sex toy website? As you might expect, it’s all about the money that could be made. Saraiya says, “The sheer size of the business opportunity was the biggest driver for me to leave the high-paying job in Singapore with an amazing expat life.

India is well known as having very strict laws concerning the sale of sex related items, but one of the site’s investors, lawyer Lekhesh Dholakia, says, “As long as the products are not ‘obscene’ and/or displayed or exhibited in a manner which is not ‘obscene’, there ought not to be any serious concerns in the sale of such products.”

Norwich judge commends pollice after British army sergeant found guilty of grooming girl so she could meet him for sex

Adrian Rose Peter Walsh 1 Thursday, January 10, 2013 6:22 PM A judge has commended two officers for a “brilliant piece of good old fashioned policing” after an army sergeant attached to the Royal Military Police was found guilty of grooming a 12-year-old girl so she could meet him to have sex. Speaking after the verdict, investigating officer Det Con Steve Graves, said: “The victim in this case is a very shattered young girl, but she is determined to get on with her life. Rose is a predator who has denied his actions throughout, which meant the girl had to relive the traumatic events which have happened to her in order to bring him to justice.” References ^ Peter Walsh (www.eveningnews24.co.uk)

Prediction time: Rutgers

Army is an 18-point underdog at No. 24 Rutgers Saturday.

Rutgers (7-1) is coming off its only loss of the season. Kent State won 35-23 on Oct. 27 at Rutgers and also beat Army 31-17 on Oct. 13 at West Point. Army (2-7) defeated Air Force 41-21 for its first win over the Falcons since 2005 last week.

Rutgers had an extra week to prepare for Army’s triple-option offense. Army has lost eight games to Rutgers, dating back 1998. The last two games have been close. Army dropped a 23-20 overtime decision to Rutgers at MetLife Stadium in 2010. The Black Knights led 17-3 at halftime in that game. Army trailed 13-12 in the fourth quarter at Yankee Stadium last year. A tripping penalty brought back a Stephen Fraser run to Rutgers 1. Rutgers blocked the ensuing punt and returned it for a touchdown and added a 56-yard touchdown run by Jawan Jamison.

Army senior quarterback Trent Steelman and junior running back Raymond Maples, the team’s two leading rushers, didn’t play due to injury last year.

Army (2-7) has not beaten a ranked opponent since a 17-14 win over Air Force in 1972. The Black Knights have dropped 11 straight games away from Michie Stadium.

Army has the top ranking offense (375 yards) in the nation. Rutgers ranks fourth in stopping the run (88 yards).

Sal Interdonato (Times Herald-Record Army football beat writer): Rutgers 31, Army 24. Think a few big pass plays to Brandon Coleman or Mark Harrison will be the difference. If Army’s secondary can hold up and Nate Combs & Co. pressure Rutgers quarterback Gary Nova, this game will be decided in the fourth quarter.

Predictions from around the college football universe
Andrea Adelson (ESPN.com Big East blogger): Rutgers 23, Army 10. Adelson says on ESPN.com, ” Rutgers returns from its bye week with another nonconference game. I am pretty sure Army will have the Scarlet Knights’ attention because: 1. Rutgers lost its last non-conference game; and 2. Army looked impressive in a 41-21 win over Air Force last week. This one is your classic matchup between the No. 1 rush offense in the nation versus the No. 4 rush defense in the nation, but I am going to be more eager to see how Gary Nova responds after throwing six interceptions last time out. Will Rutgers go even more conservative and just rely on ball control to keep Army off the field? The Scarlet Knights have too many playmakers on defense and a good enough running game to win their ninth straight in the series.”

Arizona church 'standing behind' youth pastor who gave 'sex toys' to …

The pastor of a church in Yuma, Arizona said it is “standing behind” a youth pastor who was arrested this week for allegedly providing “sex toys” to a 14-year-old girl.

Police told a reporter with CBS News affiliate KSWT Desert News Now1 that 43-yer-old Robert Warren, who’s worked at Valley Baptist Church2 for more than 20 years, was reported by the mother of a 14-year-old girl who claims she received items of a sexual nature from the man.

The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office says that Warren admitted it when confronted with the allegation. They did not describe exactly what type of sex toy was provided.

Pastor Glenn Conell reportedly told Desert News that he feels this incident was out of character for the longtime youth pastor, adding that the church is “standing behind” him, but will consider taking “appropriate” action pending the outcome of an investigation.

Warren was still in jail on Friday morning in lieu of a $63,000 bond.

Man denies sex with schoolgirl, 15 – Sunshine Coast Daily

A 26-YEAR-old man who befriended a 15-year-old girl on Facebook is alleged to have had sex with her during their first night together while on the run.

The girl, who referred to the man as her boyfriend, had skipped school and was with three men when her stepfather saw her.

The stepfather told Maroochydore District Court yesterday that she refused to get in his car and “took the bolt” into bushland, with her boyfriend following closely behind.

The girl was found by her mother at Centrelink Caloundra the next day.

“She was covered in mud, had no shoes on, her school uniform was ripped, she had a black t-shirt on. She was filthy, she smelled, just not the child I dropped off to school the previous morning,” her mother told the court.

What exactly happened while the two were on the run in the early hours of March 16 last year is being debated in court.

The man has pleaded not guilty to unlawful carnal knowledge.

Public prosecutor Greg Cummins told the court that the two were in sand dunes at Currimundi at around 4am when the girl complained of being cold. “They start cuddling, one thing leads to another,” Mr Cummins said.

However defence counsel Stephen Courtney said that the girl had “said ‘no’, and he stopped”.

The trial continues today.

U.S. Army general faces sex crimes investigation | The Raw Story

Brig. Gen. Jeffrey A. Sinclair, a career military man and decorated veteran of three different wars, will face an investigation over charges of forcible sodomy, engaging in inappropriate relationships and wrongful sexual conduct, an Army spokesperson said Wednesday.

Word of the investigation leaked Wednesday night after defense officials spoke to The Associated Press1 on condition of anonymity. The Army later confirmed the report in a brief event, during which reporters were not allowed to ask questions.

Sinclair was removed from his command in Afghanistan in May because of the allegations against him, but had been serving as a special assistant to a more senior officer at Fort Bragg in Texas while the investigation continued.

Gen. Sinclair also faces charges of numerous violations of military law including attempted violation of an order, mistreating subordinates and filing fraudulent claims.

A hearing on the matter is expected soon, but no date has been set.

“Sexual harassment and abuse exists today in the Australian Defence Forces (ADF). It ruins lives. It divides,” Sex Discrimination Commissioner Elizabeth Broderick told reporters, after making public her damning review.
