PTSD & TBI
A friend of mine has battled the demons of war that returned with her soldier after deployment. She has been completely open and honest about all that goes on when your soldier suffers from PTSD and TBI. She doesn’t sugarcoat daily events and gives you a real look into how much life can change after a deployment ends. She has compiled amazing resources that she has had to fight to find and be able to use. If you ever wanted to read an insider’s view or if you’re in the middle of the same hell, please reach out to her. She’s more than willing to help and can provide the resources and support that can help you and your soldier. Dealing with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder)
Before I asked Uncle Sams Mistress and Jess to begin blogging with me at Living the Army Life, I knew their soldiers were suffering from PTSD. However, I had absolutely no idea just how bad it was until I began to read their posts and experience with PTSD . While I haven’t met Uncle Sams Mistress’ husband, I have met her. And I have met both Jess and her husband. In fact, my husband and I are very good friends with them as they served together. The first time I read their posts, I had tears in my eyes. Now I’ve prepared myself for the fact that I will cry every time I read what they have written. Many people recognize the fact that we have soldiers who are dealing with PTSD and some are beginning to realize that TBI is an issue as well. But I don’t think many people think about the family members who are also affected. I know until I read their posts, I didn’t fully understand it myself. PTSD is definitely a disorder that affects the entire family. It’s no wonder so many marriages are in trouble after a soldier has been deployed if he is dealing with PTSD on a daily basis. While he’s dealing with the demons of PTSD, the family members are dealing with a virtual stranger in their home. A person who they knew well before he deployed returned home as a different soul. My heart goes out to them and I can only pray that we find resources that will truly offer assistance without judgment to these soldiers AND their families.
