Soldier killed in road accident named 06.03.12
A soldier who died as a result of a road traffic collision has been named as Lance Corporal Sam Greenfield, the Ministry of Defence has announced. LCpl Greenfield, 29, of 23 Engineer Regiment (Air Assault) died on 4 March 2012. The accident happened on the A14 near the Orwell Bridge in Suffolk. LCpl Greenfield joined the Army in 1999 and had deployed to Northern Ireland, the Congo and Afghanistan during his career. In his spare time LCpl Greenfield enjoyed skiing and cricket. Lieutenant Colonel Jason Hones, Commanding Officer of 23 Engr Regt (Air Asslt), said: “LCpl Greenfield was a soldier who had very recently arrived in the Regiment and had made a promising start, immediately immersing himself into the busy commitments of the unit. As a mature Junior Non-Commissioned Officer he settled in easily and was an uplifting presence in the Royal Engineers Workshop. “He was proud to be a Royal Engineer and had his life ahead of him. His death is both tragic and untimely. Our thoughts and sympathies are with his family and friends at this difficult time.” LCpl Greenfield’s wife Charlene said: “Lance Corporal Sam Greenfield, 29, loving husband to Charlene Greenfield and fabulous dad to Sean, Harris-James and Jacob was killed in a road traffic accident on Sunday 4th of March whilst on his way back to his family after serving on exercise. He had served 12 years as a Royal Engineer. His wife, children, mother and father-in-law are devastated to lose such a wonderfully loving and …

C Battery wins 3 RHA boxing finals 02.03.12
Soldiers from 3rd Regiment Royal Horse Artillery have been competing in a boxing competition in Hohne. The nine-bout event was won by C Battery. In other boxing news, the second Army Championships semi-final has taken place with 3 Para beating 4 Rifles by six bouts to three. They will now face 22 Engineer Regiment in Aldershot at the end of the month.

Exercise BOAR’S HEAD was a company level live firing exercise which took place at Otterburn Training Area involving a British Army infantry company from 5 SCOTS (a unit of 16 Air Assault Brigade) and a company from 8th Marine Infantry Parachute Regiment – a unit of the French 11th Parachute Brigade. The exercise was part of the continuing relationship between French and British Army units following the signing of the Defence and Security Co-operation Treaty by Prime Minister David Cameron and French President Nicolas Sarkozy in November 2010.
