Next month a Regimental Sergeant Major from Germany will be marking the centenary of Roald Amundsen and Captain Scott’s race to the South Pole by doing just that, racing to the South Pole. Sean McElroy, RSM of Seven Signal Regiment and two other members of the Royal Signals will be against eleven other international teams from around the world on a 440-mile trek across the frozen continent. The team will meet up for acclimatisation training in the Antarctic in mid-December and begin their race for the South Pole on New Years Day. Their ultimate goal is to raise cash for Royal Signals and Army Benevolent Funds and Help for Heroes.
